Hey Crowdfunders, glad you could join me for episode 001. This episode is only ten minutes long, and I will take a short amount of time to explain to you about the show.
First I want to tell you what my hopes and dreams for this podcast are, than a little about myself. Now episode two which is also available for immediate download will begin our interview process of a very innovative entrepreneur or what I like to call, a crowdfunder. Before I start I would love for you to visit me on Facebook, Twitter, or our website CrowdFundGenius.com. You can find us on Facebook under CrowdFund Genius two words or on Twitter @CrowdFundGenius. Drop me a line, tell me what you thought of the show, improvements, or just to say hello. I also give away a pair beats by Dre, or Skullcandy headphones every month to someone who signs up for my CrowdFundGenius email list. You can sign up on our Facebook or our website. And this is for a limited time. Also I give away various gifts on Facebook every once in awhile so be sure to check in

Now Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I will interview a crowdfunder that has found success on Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or any of the various crowdfunding platforms that are in existence. And each interview will dig deep into our guest’s crowdfunding campaign.
So every Monday, Wednesday and Friday I will have a new CrowdFund Genius episode for you to listen to that lasts between 20 and 30 minutes. You can listen to it on the way to work, at the gym, while your working whenever. I’m going to try and stick to a format that way its familiar to you each and every show. That way you know what to expect
All right now I will tell you about myself and the how the show will flow with what type of questions and information we will be extracting from each awesome crowdfunding campaign. EACH Episode will start with an introduction of a crowdfunder and their background. Then we will give go into brief run-down of their campaign. Sharing a few stories of the ups and downs throughout the entire process. Then we will find out how much they were looking to raise, did they reach their goal or exceed it? Then they will explain their perks and contribution amounts. What you received for those pledged amount. This information could prove useful if your running a campaign that’s similar to our guests.
Then we dive into their crowdfunding video. This is the oh-so important tool to showcase your campaign. All videos and campaigns will have links in the show notes on our website crowdfundgenius.com while discussing the crowdfunding campaigns video we find out if the crowdfunder used a company to make the video, what equipment they used to record it, what location was chosen and why. Even the software they used to edit the crowdfunding video will be discussed.
From here we move onto the marketing and promotion portion of the interview. We will discuss whether or not they had blogger or media attention. How did they go about getting that attention? Did they create lists? Know someone that worked for a major publication? How exactly did you get that big publication to write about you? This section of the interview, and the follow section could be very helpful for any crowdfunding campaign.
We will ask about their social media marketing. Did they use Facebook, Instagram, Twitter. How did they use social media to market their crowdfunding campaign? We will find out if they paid for promoted tweets, or promoted posts on Facebook. Did they hire a marketing company? Was their any tools that helped them with their marketing success?
I will find out if they were on the popular projects portion or staff picks portion or any of the email lists of any of the crowdfunding platforms. I’ve done interviews were people have sent balloons to staff writers, targeted them on Twitter and Facebook. All sorts of ideas to help you with your crowdfunding campaign.
Then finally my favorite part we will ask the two most important questions.
1. What’s the one thing you wish you knew before you started your crowdfunding campaign?
2. What’s the best advice, tip, or secret tool you can advise anyone listening and thinking about running their own campaign?
I like both these questions because the crowdfunder themselves can put a lot of thought and time into answering. Because these could help you prevent from making a costly mistake or at least get you a step closer to reaching your goal.
Now that I share the format of the show, I want to tell you why I created CrowdFund Genius. For years now I’ve been listening to podcasts. From Jason Calcanis on This Week in Startups, to David Site Garland from Rise to the top. My two current favorites and who I like to think I mirrored my show after is John Lee Dumas from Entrepreneur on Fire and Michael Stelzner The Social Media Podcast. I love both of these guys and their shows. Podcasts are free, and they give a ton of useful tips when it comes to marketing your business. You know what else you have to market? Your crowdfunding campaign! Now I love gathering up information. It’s an obsession of mine, brain food I crave it. I literally Google everything, you can ask my wife, she absolutely hates it. There is a ton of tips in the podcasting world that help any entrepreneur build a brand or business. So why not take that and apply it to Crowdfunding.
So with the birth of Kickstarter years ago I began waiting for podcast to come out about crowdfun

ding. And years have gone by while I remained an avid listener to the above podcasts. Meanwhile I was doing failure after failure in my entrepreneur campaigns. Finally one day I said you know what. Lets try for a podcast. Nobody else is doing crowdfunding interviews so I took it upon myself to start helping Crowdfunders with social media marketing! I already knew about Facebook marketing from studying under marketers like Jon Loomer of Jon Loomer digital. So why not share my knowledge of marketing tools like power editor and some of my email list building skills and share it with an audience that needs it for their very own business that are in the startup phase. So it is here that CrowdFund genius was born. I hope you enjoy the shows and interviews as much as I enjoy doing them. I am new to podcasting so the shows will only get better. Feel free to tell me how I’m doing on Twitter or Facebook. Just Look me up under the name CrowdFund Genius or again @CrowdFund Genius.
Now that I told you about the show, let me tell you about myself before I let you go. I’m from Oklahoma and grew up in the suburbs of Oklahoma City. At 18 I joined the United States Air Force. My first day of Basic Training was September 11, 2002. Exactly 1 year after 9/11. I traveled all over the world, Germany, France, Czech Republic, South Korea, Philippines, Guam, St. Louis, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Las Vegas, that’s a big deal for somebody that was growing up in Oklahoma. I never dreamed growing of traveling to another country. I spent 4 years working at Air Mobility Headquarters in ST. Louis, mission planning air force cargo and passenger missions non stop day in day out during the Iraq and Afghanistan war. We worked 12-hour days 6 days a week for the entire war it seems. For Four years! I originally signed up for 6 years but I extended and served 7 years, which was one year more than my active duty requirement.
After I finally decided it was time to leave the air force and check out the civilian world. And what did I do? I immediately took a job in 2009 working as a contractor in Kuwait. Working 14-hour days, 6 days a week. Again I was mission planning military cargo and passenger missions in and out of the Iraq and Afghanistan, this time though it was as a civilian employed by the military and it paid more. This is the point in my life when I said something’s gotta change. So I started investing my money in myself. I said what’s the best way to grow a business. Marketing I suggested. So I started reading everything I could get my hands on. There’s not a lot to do in Kuwait, it’s a dry country with no music. Enter Podcasting! I began listening to podcasts and getting inspired to start my own business. So I tried several business ideas and failed. After two years my wife and son had joined me in Kuwait as I processed their immigrant VISA to the United States. Keep in mind I’m in Kuwait working 14-hour days, working on a side business with my entrepreneurial gig and saving time for my family.
Okay so that was three years ago. Which brings me here to today. I’m still in Kuwait, and we are still waiting on my wife’s immigrant VISA to the US. I’m still working a day job of 14 hours a day.
Since turning 18 all I’ve known is working hard long hours. So trust me when I say this podcast will improve, the quality of the show, the number of episodes. As soon as we get my wives VISA ill be back in the state working full time on CrowdFund Genius and the podcast. So there is no where else to go but up for the show.
I know everyone listening now is interested in raising money in crowdfunding. I’m here to show you how to do it. Not me, but my guests. They are the geniuses. They are the Crowdfunders who put it on the line and went for their dream and found success. Each one will tell you it came with a significant amount of work. Each guest will tell you it wasn’t easy. Each interview will give you insights, tips, or some idea of a strategy to help you with your campaign. But most importantly, don’t just listen, get out there and do. Do your campaign, start those Facebook pages, and Twitter accounts, start building that audience now. Start networking with those bloggers and media writers. It’s vital to the success of your campaign.
